I had discovered that I was running low on Black powder and power belt bullets for my flintlock. Well yesterday after work I went to the LGS to pick up what I needed. I knew the power belts were a little pricey, $19.99 for a 20 pack, but I grabbed 2 and headed for the check out and asked for the black powder. Well he had to go out back to get it and the paper work involved. After he put my drivers license info on his paper work he rang it up and says that will be $80 and change. What I say, I thought the powder would be around $20. He says : It was a little while ago but now its $35.99.
Is this the going rate now or are they raping the customers?

John, You don't state for what brand. I did a very brief search and the big boys Cabela's, Bass Pro, and Gander Mt seem to sell at the higher price as I see this with smokeless powder and ammo in general. I have found two sites that are more reasonable in their pricing but as with powder and primers there is that hazmat fee but if you can get a bunch of guys together you can split that fee amongst the group. www.buffaloarms.com/Content.aspx?PAGE=Black%20Powder www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/category/categoryId/3501 You might want to do a local search in your area to see what others are sell for.

I last bought a pound of 3FFF about six months ago from one of the higher-priced stores (I happened to be going by, and figured I'd pick it up) It ran ~27.00, and was plain old Goex or whatever it is now, so there may have been an increase. Still sounds kind of high.

I believe that it was Goex. I'll have to check.

John, I'll have to check the LGS here in town and the rest of the ones that are close by to see what they are selling theirs for.

Happened to check in at one of my locals today. The fancy Swiss stuff was 29/lb and the Goex was 24. Up a bit, and factor in that this was in tax-free New Hamster.

JB, Well I finally made it to my local guy and it is $29.99 for a pound of 3F and 4F. The last I bought was back in the mid 90's for around $20.00 a pound.

It looks like the shops are "Adjusting" their prices with the election coming up.
