With the cost and availability of 22's I decided to use a 9mm for shooting steel challenge competition as I can reload 9mm's at less cost then 22's. This required that I buy a 9mm pistol. I chose the a S&W MP9 Pro After shooting in a couple of competitions I was not happy with the results so I spent some time at the range analyzing the problem. what I found was that my grip was not correct and the cause was that their was a space of about 1/2 inch between the top of my hand and the back of the curve of the grip below the slide, after changing out the additional grip inserts that came with the gun with no better results. I decided to make and insert to the grip to take up the space. after installing the insert my accuracy improved considerably I no longer had a problem with reacquiring a sight picture when moving from target to target. below are pictures of the modification. 1. The insert while fitting. 2. The finished results.

Karl, Question. Did you try other handguns in your hand to decide on this purchase? If I see a handgun that has caught my eye I must grip it to see how it feels in my hand. If it don't feel right it won't feel comfortable to shoot. When Cabela's had S&W Sigmas on sale I like the price. You had your choice of 9mm or 40 S&W. I been looking at the 40's and wanted a handgun in that caliber. So traveled to Cabela's to see what they had left in 40 cal. but before I laid any money down I put one in my gun hand and it was like they made this just for me. I have never before had a handgun fit my hand as well like this did. So yep I got one. There are two mod I want to do on this gun. One replace the spring and guide rod with a stainless steel one. Two replace the sear spring to lighten up the trigger pull as they came with really heavy trigger pulls 18 to 20+. Replacing this spring will cut that in half.

No Hacker I didn't, I just new some people that have them and they were very positive in their praise. So dumb a$$ just when out and got one. I normally shoot a 1911 and that fits my hand so well I didn't think but when I was doing the analysis I was comparing how the 1911 fit my hand and that is how I discovered what the problem was. As far as I am concerned a 1911 clone in 9mm would be my choice, although since I modified the MP I am pretty happy with it now.

I like the 1911 and have one again but I want to swap out the mainspring housing for two reasons. One the one in it now is polymer and two it is the straight type. I want a metal arched one. When I was introduced to the 1911 I shot both a 1911 and 1911 A1. These were GI issue service pistols from my friend a collector of military firearms. Well I shoot the A1 which had the arched housing better and felt better in my hand.

Karl, what did you make the insert out of ? I'd have probably tried bondo and duct tape, but I'm willing to learn !

Poo, I have been sitting here try to think of the name of that plastic and I will be dammed if I can, anyway it is white and very slippery almost like it is covered with oil If you look at the post of my redneck microscope I made to holed the lee hardness checker, the white piece of plastic on it is made from it. it is very easy to work with. I f I can think of the name I will get back to you with it

Karl, I had to laugh about that one. It will probably come to you when you're halfway from here to there... At least, that's the way it works for me !
