Gonna try some different brands of bottle neck brass, these are well known brands but new to me, Nosler, and Hornady. I'm looking for any comments for or against.

Bob ~ I have used Hornady Brass in 300 Blackout, .308 Winchester and .243 Winchester with no issues. The consistency and quality are very good. I would not hesitate at all to buy and use Hornady Brass. Good luck and let us know your thoughts if you try some. ~ Larry

Bob, The only Hornady brass that I had ever used was in 38Spl with their Frontier head stamp. I have had this brass for quite awhile and it still going strong.

My Nosler.243 and Hornady .22 Hornet showed up today. The nosler brass looked good they claim to have deburred and chamfered and deburred and uniformed the flash hole. I weighed the brass ,about 15 pieces and they were all within 0.2 grs. One troubling thing is they're trimmed to 2.025" and listed trim to length is 2.035" maximum length is 2.045",I normally trim to maximum - 0.002" will just have to see how it performs. The Hornady brass also seemed good,it showed the same weight tolerance but trim to length is better about 0.003" long of minimum trim length. I will have to wait on the Hornet brass for performance as my No.1 is to be reamed to K Hornet which is what this brass is for. I want to start with new brass for fire forming .

Bob, I have loaded 243 brass in Hornady & FC and the Hornady has out lasted the FC. The FC usually shows neck splits where the Hornady still looks great. I have also reformed some Hornady 243 into 260 remington an have gotten the same good results. I started annealing last year and the results have shown in the life of all my brass but still Hornady excells. Hal

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

All this talk about buying new brass...it's like buying kittens from the pet shop at the mall, when every farm in the country is over run with perfectly suitable barn cats ! Next, you'll be telling me that you can get store-boughten cartridges, all made up and ready to go !

Pooh: The only reason to by new brass is,there are no barns in this area! Don't mean to pop your bubble but yeah there is some stuff out there that is ready to shoot. T he only reason to get it is to shoot it so you can reload it!

I talked to a Nosler tech rep. today he stated the 2.025 was ok as it is the SAMMI minimum so I will now wait for the No.1 to appear and load accordingly.

Bob, Question. Are you using jacketed or cast for your fire forming?

Gary: As I understand it,like the Ackley Improved series the K Hornet is just load and shoot the fire forming will be a "natural" occurrence The only consideration I'm aware of is sending RCBS a couple of fired cases for the sizing dies F.L. and neck, although I may oppt for just the FL die. In answer to your question, I will be shooing jacketed bullets.
