Playing with sticks and balls what is Hacker up to now. My question here is which type of powder do you prefer to work with? Do you like Spherical (Ball) or Extruded (Stick) powder? So far for my use I've had the better luck working with the ball type. Yes I have worked with some stick and only found one that did really good in the 444 Marlin that I had. To date in my and my son-in-law's firearms combined ball powder has been the nod. Will I try some more work with stick? Sure when I get the chance. I know that one problem with the stick was its use in a powder measure. But most of the newer stick powders the kernels are short to work better in them. H4198 is a stick and when I was trying it out it had good sized kernels and today's kernels are of a shorter cut if I read right on Hodgdon's info. Even most of my powder for handgun is of the ball type. W231/HP38 H-Longshot Win Super Field W296/H110 W571. These powders are what they call a flattened ball powder. Some of these are shotshell powders used in handgun. Oh and yes I have flake shotshell powders that I use in handgun as well. But for cartridge loading what do you prefer to play with?

I tend to use and like both types plus the hybrids. I like H414 in the 7mm and the .30'06 (bolt gun) H4831 SC in the .243 and .270 and Alliant's offerings in the .300 & .325 magnums and so on. In short what ever makes the bullet get out of the barrel quickest with the best accuracy and lowest published pressure.
