Since I posted about Savage Arms coming into the AR market with four models to choose from. Looking over the features of these rifles the barrels come with the 5R rifling. I thought that this was a special processed barrel. Nope as I looked more into it. It is 5 lands and 5 grooves not like your typical barrel of 4 or 6 lands and grooves or a micro groove which is 12 shallow lands and grooves like in some of Marlin's lever guns. Doing a little research this type of rifling is supposed to enhance accuracy. Also reading over this I find that some of the competition shooters have barrels with this type of rifling. I'm not sure if Savage has this in their other line of rifles or not as I couldn't find any info from their site. As always I'll give a link for more insight to this. For those that wish to have a build done one might want to look into this type of barrel for their AR or bolt gun. faxonfirearms.com/blog/what-and-why-5r-rifling/
