Wow another new powder. I must say the powder manufactures have been busy trying their best to have a powder that will appeal to the reloader. We have IMR's Trailboss for the cowboy action shooter. We have CFE223 and the IMR Enduron line of powder that helps to reduce copper fouling. You have the most recent in Win. 572 powder and the new ones just released from IMR and now we have a new one from Alliant called Sport Pistol. Now what would make this powder different that other pistol powder don't have. Well according to Alliant it is to formulated for the coated cast bullet shooter. It is suppose to not damage the base of the coated bullet. I got this info from Powder Valley's Facebook page and according to them they are look to have this powder sometime March.

Guess I'm getting old (certainly old-fashioned). Not much interest in learning a new trick to cast and coat. My go-tos will remain 2400 for soft point .357, and Unique for gold dot .40 and .45. Since I can shoot those three just fine for accuracy.....and every one go through bone with no tendency to skid around it.....just not interested in 9mm or less.
I know casting is cheaper......but but I guess I value my time more. Just not for me.......besides I've already ruined my lungs with Asthma....can't afford to finish them off.

Greg,
First off good to hear from you. Hope your shoulder is coming along. Yep understand about learning something new. I am also one who is Asthmatic so I must be careful when casting. If I can get a deal on buying cast bullets I get what I can. Will I try this new powder probably not. What I would like to try is Hodgdon's CFE Pistol. If said powder helps to keep jacket build up down then I can see using it with all my jacketed loads. As for cast or swaged lead I do like and prefer W231/HP38 I don't like keep a lot of different powders on hand and Like you have your go to's. My son-in-law likes to stick with one to maybe three different powders. Now shotshell is for me at the other end of that spectrum. In shotshell I have at least 7 different powders 5 different primers. This is to accommodate the different gauges the hulls the wads which dictates what powder and primer. Yep way more finicky than cartridge.

This thread has brought up my problem of having way too many different powders. I seem to hear of or read about a new powder and think "I'll have to give that a try". Then I go so far as to buy the new powder but way too often don't have the time to work up loads to test out and compare the new stuff. The recent shortages we all went through also added to my problem because I bought some different powders that were available "in case" my favorites were not available when I ran out of it. Well I made it through the shortage and never went with out the original types but now have the "in case" powders too. I hate to say it but my bullet inventory has suffered much the same fate over the years. Someday, someone is going to be going through my "estate" and they will be asking; " . . . wonder why he had so many un-opened bullets and powders?"
If / when I get around to working up the loads I'll let you guys know how CFE-BLK and CFE-Pistol work out . . . I have them both on hand, just need time!

Hacker....the shoulder is mending....graduated from P&T two weeks ago, and immediately had to build a commercial stairway with it. I did OK. The motion is coming to the point where I forget it was hurt and do something stoopid that takes my breath away.....and puts tears in my eyes! Thanks for the concern. Looking forward to restarting my gun/reloading hobby this spring. Snapshot....I never let the politics and shortages affect me that much. I only buy when I need and if there's nothing to buy I wait. I'm too stubborn to pay the shortage prices for stuff. The only exception was .22LR. Those prices never came back, so I bought some stock of that. As of right now I have a couple of lbs of each of the powders I use and that's all. If I ever get back to reloading it this spring, I'll get some more. I do have a year supply of food and water and medicine.

Greg ~ I agree with your approach and follow it most of the time. The powders I bought during the "shortages" were some I had not used but knew would work for my needs. I bought them before their prices went too high and my "regular" powders were either not available or their prices had gone past my budget level (basically I'm a little cheap). We all handled the availability and price squeeze in our own ways but I think most of us have increased our back stock in planning for the next round. As for 22 Rimfire . . . the industry handled them just like the gasoline companies. In California the gas price passed $5.oo a gallon and hurt us all. Then they got the price "down" to the $3.oo range and we thought it was okay. If they had gone to the $3.oo level and held there everyone would still be bitching but the way they got us here made it seem like those "nice people" who make gasoline are trying to help us. The 22 Rimfire market seems to be the same. I'm so old; I remember as a small boy, going to the general store in town and buying a box of 22 Shorts, a bottle of Grape Nehi Soda and a Pepperoni Hot Stick and I got change for may dollar. I was set for the day . Damn, that sounded like my Dad! As for your rehab' I know what you're going through. Getting back to work and overdoing it can not only cause us pain but can cause some serious set backs in total recovery. Our good Lord uses that pain to remind us that we need to take it easy. Good luck with all you're going through. ~ Larry (SnapShot)

Greg, I thought I'd done a shout, but for some reason the computer gods didn't let it stick, so I'll try this ! Glad to hear you're progressing. Pain comes naturally to those of us older than Tom Brady. A friend, who is somewhat older than I maintains that if he wakes up and something doesn't hurt, he becomes concerned that he might have died. Take the transition as gently as you can. I run a one man shop, so I understand the limitations of that advice !
Larry, I think you're right-we've all adapted in some ways to the "shortages", each in our own way. I've become an opportunist-if I spot known commodities at a favorable price, I grab it. I handed over a family .22 to my nephew recently, along with a box of .22LR. My advice was that if he saw .22 at .06/round or less to grab it-no questions asked.
I love your description of your shopping list ! How many of us remember a store where such luxuries could be had ?

Oh, that's good! LOL! Your list could start a whole new thread..... My first Ruger 1022 (with a real walnut stock) I bought at a grocery store for $52 in 1971....and LRs for it were 69 cents.

Well today 04-20-17 I see the Alliant now has this powder on their web site. They have not listed any load data for this as of yet. I'll have to check back at a later time to see when theywill list load data for this new powder.

Update gentlemen. As I was looking over Alliant's site to see if they have data for this powder yet. Well today 05-09-17 I find that they no do have data for this powder also if any of you are familiar with Acme cast bullets and their total coated bullets you will find these mentioned in the data. So if anyone is interested in this powder and can find it in your local now ya got data to work with. I'll have to see if my local guy has this yet or not.
