Gentlemen I ran across this on the internet and maybe someone would be interested or may have an insight on this nice little tool. I have seen other similar tools but this one seems to click. Here is the link. www.borkatools.com/

I have never owned or used one to mount a scope but that is probably the reasons for all those flyers. My son in law bought a kit to lap rings and it had a fat wrench that came with it and he likes it but that is his first. Now days the scopes cost as much or more than the guns so it would pay to own one. I will put it on the list for the future since all my guns are mounted with a scope.

Hal, a suggestion for your son. If the scope alignment tool doesn't have "squared" ends on one end of each half consider getting them trued in a lathe. The pointed ends will get the general alignment but the trued ends will show ANY misalignment.
With regard to your first comment, it seems that manufacturing quality is down or we were blissfully ignorant. I never worried about alignment,I did, however, use a 1" steel tube to align the rings. It wasn't 'till about 20 or so years ago I started using a torque wrench for scope mounting and general screw tightening.

Good point, Bob. For over 30 years I used my grip to tell when things were tight enough and really never had any problems. Had all those proven methods that were taught to me by the (then) old guys, like tapping the driver with a hammer as I tightened things, etc. Somewhere about 20 years ago I bought my first breakaway wrench and then just a few years ago I learned about lasers to assure exact alignment. They are fun tools and I like the idea but I couldn't swear my scopes, etc are any better aligned. Ain't progress great?!

Bob I believe I remember reading about the pointed end alignment bars on this sight as they weren't as true as the squared ends did. I don't know which type my son in law bought but it is his first set up using any tools other than eye sight and an Allen wrench. In my earlier days of shooting and hunting we only concerned ourselves about hitting a paper plate at 50-100 yards.
