I just flipped through the latest edition of American Handgunner, and am given to understand that Browning has, or will shortly, discontinue production of the Hi-Power. As you're aware, I'm a great fan of John Moses Browning-the 1911 was a good first draft. With the Hi-Power, he got it right.
Actually, I guess times change-hi cap, steel, single action just doesn't fly with many these days. I am reminded of Obi Wan Kenobi, who described another antiquated design as "Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster. An elegant weapon... for a more civilized age." In any event, I've got mine !

Pooh, Is it a cost of manufacturing issue or sales of the "High-Power" Now one has to think will they make one in a polymer frame? If you look over my thread on the use of polymer. In that thread I stated about wondering if they would ever come out with a polymer frame 1911 and sure enough they did. They did it to the 1911 will they go and do the same to the "High-Power"?? Time will tell.

I think they just don't hold enough rounds in the magazine.....these days people have to have a pistols with huge magazines to make up for poor shooting skills. I have no choice in the matter.....I can't get my small hands around Glock magazines......so I'd better keep current with the practice. I can, however, use the Ruger SR series in .40 cal just fine, but that's my max. (Wonderfully designed compactness for all the rounds you get)

I wish I still had mine, it was a very nice pistol mid '60s era and if memory serves it had a 13 or 14 rnd. magazine. I sold it 'cause I got tired of chasing brass.

well I just had to go look to see if by chance they have a polymer frame for the Hi-Power. Looks like they have been around for quite a while now. I have read some from some sources that date back to 2004. If anyone likes I'll post some links if interested.

Now, here's where it gets interesting... I mentioned that Handgunner (Ayoob's article) said a source at Browning had indicated the discontinuation. I later went to the Browning site, and discovered that a number of variants, including the digital camo version (barf.) were no longer being produced, but other versions were still listed as current production. To further confuse things, going to various on line forums, different people have talked to different folks at Browning and gotten different answers. (Even better are those who have spoken to multiple sources at Browning, and gotten different answers.) Now, all this is coming from this side of the pond. I haven't seen anything from FN, or the Portugese subsidiary. Whatever.
Hacker, a polymer frame on a HiPower ? Sounds like some of the uses of silicone. Same form, different feel !

Pooh, where is your mind ? This is a firearm based thread, or is it my mind?

Bob, I think you asked a very good question. I'm not saying I lost mine, but it's definitely been misplaced...
(Clarification. My mind. I know where my Browning is !)
