For those of you following the somewhat mundane adventures of a guy who joined the Exodus from the Republic of Kalifornia . . . here is a short adventure.
Upon attending a local Arizona Gun Show; the first things that was different was FREE PARKING! Then we entered and saw people actually purchasing guns . . . and taking them home with them!
People in general were friendly, helpful and COURTEOUS to each other. There were gun magazines that actually held more than 10 rounds! They had guns for sale that were not on any state required list!
When asking what is involved in obtaining a firearm we were asked; “Do you have a valid Arizona Driver License?” When we replied; “yes” the next requirement was money. Seems those are the only two requirements. Then we asked about background checks and they told us it takes less than a minute; on-line. Makes us wonder why California takes so long? Then the real commonsense thing came up. I mentioned my Arizona CCW . . . well if you have a current resident CCW then you already have a background check in place and there is no requirement to do it again.
But; what about the D.R.O.S. fees? ? ? (For those of you who live in free states and don’t know about D.R.O.S. it’s a Dealer Record Of Sale required by the California DOJ). It’s a fee (read TAX) of $35.00 that must be paid to cover the DOJ background check that takes so long). Seems Arizona has no such requirement.
After sitting a few moments to allow all of this FREEDOM to sink in, we ventured through the show. There were so many firearms that we had read about but never seen (most are not on the Kalifornia approved list). Then we saw it . . . a Smith & Wesson “Governor”. They really do exist!
To keep this adventure short let me just say . . . I took it and some ammunition home with me that very same day. THERE IS NO TEN DAY WAIT IN THE FREE STATE OF ARIZONA ! ! !
Can’t wait to take it to the range.
