In keeping with Dangun's quest for a super long range rifle I just had an 1892 Winchester Saddle ring carbine .25-20 come home with me. A fun little rifle! I'm not so sure the bullet will travel more than 400 yds.

As a very young lad, the first center-fire I ever shot was a 25-20. I believe it was a Marlin. It belonged to a fella who was teaching gun safety for the scouts. I was too young for the program but got to go along with my older brothers. It was a big deal back then . . . Congratulations on your acquisition, Bob; it's a great little cartridge.

Wow!!! Many years ago when I first got interested in long range shooting at about 8 yrs old. (back then long range was about 200 yds to me) I was given a Savage Sporter 25-20 bolt action rifle. I think I still have the dies for that round. Anyway I remember it being fun to shoot. It may not meet my standards for accuracy today but I didn't think there was anything I couldn't hit with it back then. That is as long as the wind wasn't blowing to hard...I wish I could remember what happened to that rifle. I probably gave it to some wide eyed kid looking to get his feet wet in bench rest shooting but I just don't remember. Bob Thanks for bringing back that memory. I know you will enjoy that rifle they are a blast to shot!!

Re; .25-20 A slight change of events. A friend , the LGS owner made a slight error and offered that .25-20 to 3 of us,all old customers and one that is a friend of mine. I returned the .25-20 for one of us and gave my other .25-20 to my friend for his grand son. The "giving" is not with out reward though as he is a gunsmith of excellent quality and will make my Ruger No.1 .22 Hornet in to a K hornet at no cost. I shot my 25-20 very little and the look on his and the LGS owner's face was worth the trade regardless of out come. 4 people are now happy!

A very nice gesture and nice trade off. Oh and yes want to hear about the K-Hornet when done and a range report.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

.25-20 revisited. As it turns out the third person in my original tale backed out of the deal. My gun smith friend has my old '92 I have my No.1 in K Hornet and now have the '92 that started this tale. LGS owner is happy, gunsmith friend is happy, and I'm happy.
