I was involved in a situation last week that forced me to draw and shot someone. They did not die and the wound was non-life threatening. I just wanted to remind everyone of a few things you need to remember if you are ever in this situation.
1. If you are not safe where you are, go to a safe place.
2. Call 911 tell them that you had to defend you life. Give a detailed description of yourself, you car and where you are, where the shooting took place and the best description of the attacker as you can. Since you should be in a safe place be sure your firearm is holstered. Say no more to the 911 operator.
3. When the Police arrive tell them that you feared for you life. The only other thing you should say is that you want to talk to a Attorney... Trust me, you will not be thinking straight and if you talk to the police you may say something that could get turned against you. Also do not consent to any searches. Never!!!!
4. You will most likely be placed in handcuffs ( do not resist) this will happen regardless of what you say so say nothing until you talk to a Attorney. You will be taken to the police station. ( I was only there for 2 hours and released.)
Now do this before this ever happens to you.
Buy insurance! USCCA, NRA or some other organizations insurance designed for this purpose. If you cannot afford this insurance at least locate and talk to an Attorney in your area that handles these situations. If you find one that you think could help you, keep his or her number handy.
You never Know!
Of course this is only a very short list of things to remember but you need to prepare in advance!!!
