I attended a Hunter Education training/conference yesterday and won a door prize, a CVA muzzle loader. Looking forward to shooting it smoke and all. For accessories, I am considering a silencer and a bump stock and probably a high capacity magazine, may have to get GWS involved with that.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

If CVA's claims about the breechplug hold up, it should be easy to clean. Can you still use the dreaded Pb in muzzleloaders in the PRC ?

Bob....leave you alone for five minutes and you go back in time! Hope you at least got younger for the trouble.
When I was young I got two black powder rifles for Christmas. A Hawken 54 cal. and a CVA Kentucky Rifle 30 cal.......both in kit form. Oh the horrors trying to get those built. I did not possess my infinite patience in those days. Finished the Hawken.....went to a local black powder club meeting to learn how to clean one after a shoot................................................sold it by the week end, and the unfinished CVA too....never looked back! Although I buy RCBS progressives, I swear, I am not a masochist! Stupid......maybe.

I hear ya Greg. cleaning sounds a little daunting. This one has a S.S. barrel and what is worse synthetic stocks my first of those also.

I still have and shoot two smoke poles. One is a Hawken 50 cal. and the other is a Hawken 54 cal. both came in kit form and I loved building them. Cleaning has never been a big problem for me. I dunk the barrels in a bluing tank filled with boiling water. I then blow them out with compressed air followed by a shot or two of wd40. For me the fun of shooting them out weighs all the crap you have to go through to clean them.

Thanks for the idea Dan, I have a metal fishing rod case which I made years ago and the size is just right and it is water tight, along with my 3 burner propane camp stove should do the trick.

Bob I hope it works as good for you has it has for me. Black powder residue seems to melt away in hot water!
