I received my K Hornet dies from Huntingtons Friday so today I plan to set the full length die . Since I plan to only neck size I will set the die to "book" specification then adjust with my arbor shims. At some point I will try to get a neck die but I'm not sure I will be able to get RCBS so may try Redding which I know are good, may even try a bushing style.

Bob, are you starting with K Hornet brass, and sizing ? I guess I'd assumed everyone fireformed from regular Hornet cases. More than one way to remove the epidermis from the feline.

Pooh, the fellow who did the reaming fired about a dozen cases in the K chamber which he gave me. You assumed correctly all start from standard Hornet cases which are then fireformed

K Hornet. Thanks to Bob, I got curiouser and curiouser. I had to go find some info on the K Hornet after you started talking about it. I found this interesting post by a guy named Scorch on the Firing Line Forum. Had just one question..... #3. Why? Logic would assume more pressure means more brass wear not less? And why does the 22 Hornet have such a reputation? Just thinking (I know that gets me in trouble usually) it would seem that the thin necks on both rounds would have equal effects.....obviously that's not much of a problem or you wouldn't be a K-Hornet fan. In learning mode......

Greg, I now have both the standard and the "K", I am led to believe that the shorter neck and much steeper shoulder angle are responsible for the improved brass life. I won't be much of a judge about this as I have had very good life with my standard version but the I only neck or partial size after the first sizing. Any performance differences will also be hard to evaluate as the No.1 has a 26" tube and the M77 has a 20-22" tube (I'll have to measure it). I'll be in research mode!

Well after adjusting my FL sizing die I decided to try Huntingtons/ RCBS for a neck sizing die and low and behold I should have one fairly soon. Now I have to add up the shims and record the value for future partial sizing, some where between FL and neck.

This morning I received a call from Huntington's Die Specialty and was informed RCBS no longer makes special order dies. This and no neck sizing die for the K Hornet, I guess I'll try Redding after all.

Why do you want to neck size only? Even the local benchresters I know don't neck size anymore. As for dangun.....I don't know if he still does. I heard that they get better scores keeping the necks and bodies aligned each time.
Not criticizing, mind you.......I'm still in "learning mode", probably always will be. Honest question.

In a nutshell I have found it extends brass life and seems to aid accuracy. I do FL size all virgin brass and any cartridge for a lever or semi auto rifle.

This is a touch off-topic, but it just struck me...RCBS no longer doing custom dies, and limiting its line. All part of a trend, I guess. but kind of sad. More and more, we're getting to the point of buying everything blister packed and off the rack. Wow. Ok, I'll get off my soap box !
