Well I have another 1911. When I learned that the CMP was going to bring back some 1911's and make them available for sale I through my name in the hat (that mid-2018). In November I received word that they were running behind schedule and would notify me when things got moving. Then in January I received word that I "should learn if I made the cut" during first quarter. Two weeks ago I actually received a phone call asking if I was still interested. This saga ended yesterday when I picked up my 1911 at my LGS. It's a very nice gun in very good condition with little to no sign of ware. It's a Service Grade, Remington Rand, M1911A1 from the sixties. It came with one magazine and is in a real nice Pelican Style case. I can't say I need another 1911 in any way but I bought this one just because I could.

I'm so jealous. But congrats on your 1911 A-1. I prefer the 1911 A-1 over the 1911. I like the arched mainspring housing as it handles better in my hand.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Larry, I think that's a fine reason to buy a .45. I'll be interested to hear more about it as you poke and prod. Back in the days of DCM, getting stuff was like Santa showing up !
Aside to Hacker, ordinarily I say that if John Moses Browning didn't decree it, it's wrong, but...I agree with you on the A1. Just works better for me ! (No compromise on the double diamond grips, however !)

Update: Looking over this 1911 I was sure it was NOT from the sixties. I must have misunderstood the lady's comment on the phone at CMP (?). I have done some research on Remington Rand and their contribution to the war effort. Records indicate that they were the 66th largest supplier to our war effort in areas well beyond 1911's. This serial number falls in production records from 1944 (that makes it a little older than me). It is one of 161,732 units and it would be the 1,265th unit produced that year. Who knows, my dad might have carried this one.

Congratulations on your acquisition, I was a little hesitant to say anything but I thought Remington Rand cease arms production either shortly after W.W. ll or the Korean "Conflict"(war) . One of my M1 Carbines was made by them also. Good luck and enjoy it regardless of age. Larry, I haven't forgotten the 6.5 bullets.
