Well yesterday 08-17-19 I and the son in-law got out to the range to sight in for the early season. We did not shoot at either the rifle or pistol range but the archery range. The club we belong can accommodate all aspects of shooting whether it goes bang or twang. We took our crossbows out to sight in for first time since we got them in Feb. To get a good handle on our shots I took along a small folding table and chair to use the rifle rest. We shot at 10-20-30 yards. After getting zeroed at 10 yards getting set for 20 and 30 didn't take much to get where I needed to be. Our crossbows have scopes mine with stacked cross hair and his with circle dots with horizontal lines. This would be what mine looked like.

Now that there is something I know less than nothing about!
When I was young it was illegal to hunt anything with a cross bow. What's the state of affairs these days? Just another bow for bow season, or do they have special hunts?
I'm ready for a new education....

Greg, For many many years here in PA crossbows were illegal to hunt with. Then about 15 years or so ago they allowed crossbows for those that had shoulder problems but they had to show proof from a doctor of such and then they were given a special permit allowing the use a one. When I was a young snot I hunted archery but as I got older I started having shoulder problems and the doc confirmed rotator cuff. Now people would say got to the docs and see about getting the permit. Well if I don't need to go to the docs I don't go also saves on paying for the visit. It was and I'm not sure but 5+ years that they allowed them for use in the archery seasons. So with that no need for the doc. Now for some of the oddities in regulations. Regular bows which include longbow, curve bow, and recurve have to have a minimum draw weight of 35lbs now the crossbow has to have a minimum of 125lbs draw weight. Now all these bows can be used in the regular archery season for deer and now we have an archery season for bear and I'm thinking that one over.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Hacker, sounds like a similar path to the one taken by New Hamster. Started with disabled, progressed to over 68, and now allowable during muzzleloader season with an additional permit. Other rules are pretty much the same, except for regular bows, the minimum is 30 for turkeys and 40 for all other critters.
