The ornament hanger vs. paper clip: It works just as well and was a lot easier to form. I was able to tweak the shape so much easier, yet pushing a little case was not going to deform it at all....not even close. I was fortunate to find it in my junk drawer.....was actually looking for a paperclip....
The skipped case: No....I am old....got tired of stoking and that one didn't make it back enough to drop the next case. Good to know. Short stroking is not that disastrous to the APP (at least in that kind of operation....just an extra stroke needed. On most presses a short stroke causes all kinds of hell.
I can't think of a faster way to deprime first when you want to clean a bunch of cases with a tumbler and pins.
The final tweak. Wire reshaped and recessed 1/32" so the cases didn't ever drop on it.

Bob, I was hoping for that smart A$$ comment.....today was so boring, I coulda used some entertainment. My back was against the wall.....it wouldn't feed .40 even once, dipping the case as it did into the recess. It was either come up with something or send the press back......or ask for the unplowed 1st generation X-press shell holders. Oh well, it wasn't hard to fix. Yesterday I deprimed at least a 1000 pieces....glad I bought it now. Tomorrow the swager should come in.....been hearing reports that it won't round the edge where the crimp was like it's supposed to....I hope that proves to be wrong, because that might be hard to fix. Without a rounded edge primers will often stick an edge on insertion and deform them. Then that would require another step, reaming with a military primer pocket reamer as well.
I also am expecting another shell holder for .357 tomorrow. I don't expect the same problem with that one since that caliber has a big A$$ case rim to ride over the shell holder.
More than anything I'm am thankful for the new project.....things are dull around here....and the Virus isn't helping. Just glad I picked up a huge bag of toilet paper at CostCo last month.....and my gas tanks are full.
