Some time back I bought a Sig 226 “Blackwater” 9mm pistol. It's a has oversized grips and double stack mags; it's one of the largest 9mm's I've ever seen. It was equipped with Big Dot Night Sights. If you’ve never looked at these sights they have a oversized front sight that must be aligned in the center of a half round rear sight. It looks like a lollypop sitting in a half circle with no center reference. To keep this long and painful story short; I gave up on being able to hit paper, let alone the X-ring, so the gun became a safe queen for the past few years. I got it out with the thought of selling it but I liked the looks and feel of this oversized beauty. I had a more traditional sight set that I bought somewhere down the line and thought I’d give them a try. They were the right height and dovetail so what the heck. I bore sighted things and headed to the range. This gun is now one of my favorites! I never had to touch the sights and punched out the center of a few targets. It was a very good day at the range. Needless to say I’m not going to sell it after all. Have any of you shot the Big Dot pistol sights? I'm sure someone must like them; I see them in lots of catalogs.

I have seen photos of them and how they align but never had the chance to shoot with them. I would have to shoot with them to see how I would do.

I've never heard of those sights....will have to look them up. It's always nice when a bad experience turns into a great one. I wish my little Kahr SW40 would become a cinderella miracle.....can't shoot it worth beans.....my favorite .40 is my Ruger. Shot great first time out and stayed that way. How about showing us a picture of your new favorite big sig!
Here's a picture of my fav.... a 15 +1 .40S&W. I know it's weird but I've yet to shoot let alone own a 9mm! Besides .40's, .45's .357's, .22's....is the limit of my sheltered life's experience...

The Sig Sauer P226 is the gun that "Blackwater" (the U.S. contractor in Afghanistan) spec'ed out. It's a 9mm with very large wood grips. I actually bought this a few years back because I loved the look and feel AND I liked the Blackwater "Bear Paw" logo. Now that I've gotten rid of the Big Dot sights I really enjoy shooting it. These are shot on a 1" grid; the silver dollar is for size reference.

In case you haven't seen one; here is a screen-shot of what a BigDot Sight looks like. I couldn't hit the barn if I was inside and a few guys at the range had similar results. If any of you have had luck with these sights please let me know the secret.

Judging from the picture and your comments I know the secret................change the sights to something more usable. I don't think I could hit a barn even while being inside. I seriously wonder about rapid target acquisition.

Agree with Bob.....nice (bad ass) looking firearm. Maybe those sights are for dumb lugs like me that need such big things to see..... It reminds me of my Kahr SW 40's sights. Can't say I shoot it as well as my Ruger, but I can at least see the sights.
Kahr CW40 on the left....Taurus on the right:
So what do the new sights look like on the gun? I see the rear sights....but not the front. Do they really show more target?
