Back in January we had a thread Colt does it again, well they did and I caught a bad case of Coltitis the 1911 strain. My LGS owner "had" a Gold Cup National Match .45 disease and I caught it. This particular version will get some exercise but will primarily rest in the comfort of my gun cabinet although it will be immediately available for any necessary use, my other 1911 is my "work" tool. I have been trying to cure this problem and have self prescribed several different pills of differing size, weight and brand but it just seems to make it worse. Oh well I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Be careful Bob ~ At last count I have seven variances of 1911’s in the safe . . . the disease can be severe ! Maybe someday I can make it to the Gold Cup National Match level. Congratulations on your find.

Bob so sad to hear of your illness yes I have a 1911 illness as well. I would like to get a Colt Combat Commander again just like the on I had years ago. I would like to catch a Gold Cup someday. You made a very very nice score. Oh we will need a full range report as time permits.

A few words of warning....don't be stupid. I bought a 70 series Gold Cup when I was younger. Then I got old and stupid and sold it. I did buy a Kimber Target II to replace it, but it was never the same. What's not the same, you ask?....Well besides the name, it's hard to beat one, accuracy and comfort-wise. By comfort, I mean the slide racks so much easier than the Kimber. I don't know why the Kimber has such a stiff, hard to rack spring. As I age it gets harder....wonder why that is? Wimpier and wimpier. I miss my Colt God Cup a lot. I traded it because I didn't shoot it much, trying to save it's value.......how stupid is that....why should I have cared? Should have shot it until it wore out like me....even to death.....and maybe we'd meet again on the other side!
Colts are made for shootin! Don't forget it!
BTW, what series did you find?

My "work'n" 1911 is a series 80 my G.C. is a 70. "Then I got old and stupid" well I was already stupid and I am old so I won't be selling anything. To use a new fangled phrase, a little back story may be in order. I have been looking at a very nice S&W "1911" .45 for some time and as nice as it is I just couldn't bring myself to buy a non Colt(other than military Singer or the like) .45 but was getting tempted more and more, then he brought out the contagious and infectious Colt.

Well if somehow, someway, my old friend made it to the west coast, and you found it, you got one with low miles. I didn't keep the serial # record so we will never know. Either way, enjoy! One beautiful firearm!

I think we have ALL come to the same conclusion; “never sell a gun, regardless of reason . . . you’ll regret it some day”.

Give me a place to stand and a long-enough lever, and I will invariably break the lever.

Pooh you are probably right about the disease thing and I will enjoy it! To be honest about the transaction, I only held the gun for a very very brief time with the slide back and didn't even touch the trigger it is that nice looking! I also trust the store owner!

Yes!....The finish on those is amazing....I'm just surprised the store owner didn't keep it for himself....lucky you! When I bought mine new, I had just sold my Suzuki 370 motocross machine for $1800. It took all but $100. In those days that was pretty pricey.

GW, he had 2. He and his wife, the owner of record, have been very good to me over the years. Unfortunately it is only a gun/reloading shop, no decoys, calls or the like.
