Well guys here's the low down on my new squirrel gun that I got after the season ended. It is from Chiappa Firearms of Italy. I have a combination rifle and shotgun. This is their model they call the Double Badger it's a 22lr over a .410 bore shotgun. This also comes in 22WMR over .410 and 22lr over 20ga. I wanted to put a Weaver 1-3 on it but found that Weaver has discontinued them. I really like that scope. So I went and got a Simmons 1-4 then rings for 3/8th groove. I removed the rear sight put the rings in place then placed the scope into the rings and had a problem. The scope turret area is larger than on any of my other scopes. I had to place the one ring so far forward that I had barely any groove to attach to. So I ordered a set of offset rings from BKL Technologies. Well these didn't work out either as the rings are not high enough so that turret area to clear. So the rear sight goes back on. My next will be another peep sight that will go on to a 3/8th groove and swap the peeps as the one that came with the gun is a Williams. www.chiappafirearms.com/product.php?id=56www.bkltech.com/BKL-1-Offset-Dovetail-Rings-p/bkl-274.htmwilliamsgunsight.com/product/williams-wgrs-54/

Bob, I was looking at the Savage as my hunting buddy has one in 22lr over 20ga. his is one of the older ones. His is a model 24 the ones they put out today is the model 42. Both the old and new Savage to select which barrel to shoot one moves on the hammer to fire. If one as to me anyway has to select in a hurry and needs to make sure it might not be that quick. The Chiappa I can go back and forth with my trigger finger to decide which barrel to shoot.

Looks like a really fun gun! In my neck of the woods (desert) we'd have to call it a "snake gun". My equivalent fun gun here would have to be a long range, coyote, or prarie dog rifle with a long range optic.......maybe I'll hunt squirrels in the next life..... Enjoy the woods, Hacker!
Bob: the peep sight for a 10-22 could be fun.....if your eyes are up to it. Mine? I don't know. Would like to try it.
Where I have had some fun is with a red dot on my Ruger Mk 3 22-45 pistol. Dang, I need to get healthier and get out and shoot.....you guys are making me miss it.

Hacker, that looks like just the thing. I like that it's real steel and wood, and while the trigger system would probably induce me to goof up, it looks like you've thought it out. Also, looks like a good candidate for use with grandchildren ! I keep looking for an old M24 (cheap) to fool around with. They never show up with a decent price tag when cash is at hand ! I know we'll all be interesting in how it shakes out !

Bob, since I have the attention span of a goldfish, projects come and go, often before I act. I had some idea that an apature sight on the 10-22 would be cool, and I looked at this one. Someday... www.skinnersights.com/ruger_firearms_22.html

Thanks Pooh, as a charter member of the procrastinators club I will try to get one of those sights right after we have a meeting pretty soon.
On a serious note that sight looks to be what I want.

10/22’s with peep-sights are a great combination. These photos are the factory sights on the Ruger 10/22 Collector Series #3 (Mans Best Friend}. I have thought of putting some on my other 10/22’s but haven’t got around to it yet. Seems that you guys are not the only procrastinators in this group. These sights are very similar to the sights on the Ruger Mini 14, Ranch Rifle and they work great there as well.

Well gentlemen I had the gun out to the range yesterday. I and the son-in-law went. He took his Marlin Model 60 to give it a better workout and to dial it in better at 25 yards. Well I put several rounds down range at 25 yards and the best I could do with the peep on it was about minute of groundhog not minute of squirrel like I would want. The front fiber would cover the center portion of the target used. I was using dead on Maybe if I used the 6 o'clock hold I might have done better, So now I'm browsing to see what for scope I can us. A 1 to 4 power would be what I want ant the area where the turret are has to be small enough to clear the area below it. The Simmons 1-4 that I have the turret area is to thick for my use even when I transfer this to my single shot 30/30 I need high rings for the clearance.

Hacker, did you try pattering the shot barrel ? Just wondering. Also, have you given thought to a reflex sight on it ? The game you're looking for might make that a gangbuster. Might even serve well with the shot barrel, based on my experience with each but not together.

Pooh, I only put two rounds of Federal 2 1/2 #6 through it. I first shot at about 30 yards and had very few hit the target. I then moved it to around 20 yards maybe just under that?? Now for both I aimed to the right side of the target which by the way was 8x10 as I have watch videos of this model shooting the 410 barrel and the loads were going left. Hence why I aimed at the right side. Well the second shot very nice pattern but went where I aimed. I'll have to shoot from the bench as these were offhand. It is choked full so I'll have to play more with that.
