I'm suffering from “Cabin-Fever” so I elected to venture out to see how bad things really are relating to guns and ammo “shortages”. My first stop was my local gun store (always first place to shop). They have most ammo in stock although they say sales are up, especially handgun and home defense ammo. Handgun sales are brisk but not seeing anything they’d call panic buying. However, my back-ordered Ruger 57 is still on back order . Long-gun sales are typical with no appreciable increase. The reloading section was still well stocked. The only noticeable issue is they are not receiving regular orders, (were getting daily shipments now a just a few a week) indicating distributors may be dealing with issues. Next I stopped at local box store (Sportsman’s Warehouse). They have typical inventory of all guns but said sales are up. The ammo situation showed plenty of long-gun ammo but most of the handgun shelves were sparse. No home defense ammo at all and most of the popular hand-gun ammo inventory is depleted. Their reloading section was normal except for handgun bullets. The most popular calibers were depleted. They receive their shipments through their own warehousing system and they say it’s running slow. They have implemented a no return policy and most of their sales. I have talked with some Ham Radio friends down in Phoenix area and they tell a much bleaker story than we have here in Northern Arizona. The contacts with guys in Southern California tell of major shortages. Again strongest in handguns and matching ammo. My personal inventory is in good shape and I'm not concerned about any shortage of supplies being bad enough to effect me.

Thanks Larry- not sure about guns, but anecdotally, ammunition sales of the big sellers, 9mm & 5.56, are brisk, with the big dealers selling out. If one shops around, stuff can be had. Oddly, I just logged on to Midway and was greeted with a big page explaining their situation. Worth a look. I could maintain present levels of activity for some time with stuff I have in stock. Of course, if it's a real deal...
Toilet paper story: Over in Keene (South of Newport, home of Ruger) a woman was heaping a cart full of toilet paper. The manager pointed out a two package limit, and the woman did not take it well, and the police became involved. Now, imagine her responding to her new cellmate asking what she was in for...

Well here in PA all non-essential stores are closed and yes that includes the LGS's. I have things on hand to roll them so stock of my own is not a problem. My problem is getting my butt in gear to get that done.

Interesting phenomena, toilet paper and hand gun ammo in short supply, are people scared s^&tless or are they just crapping in their pants? On a more serious note, the LGS I deal with is closed but had been selling a lot of hand guns and ammo. I have not been to our local Sportsman's Warehouse don't even know if it is open. On the other hand I have no needs and won't for the foreseeable future except for the 45-75 but that is a no hurry project yet. Hang in all and stay well!

That is a good one, 'sept mines a .300 W.M. I truly hope it doesn't come to that!
I don't have to increase social distancing, my personality has already done that!

I haven't been to the LGS in awhile. My reloading supplies are in good shape. TG! I have been getting alot of emails requesting reloading classes. I got my NRA Metallic Cartridge Reloading instructors certification several years ago. Since then I have only taught the class 3 times. Suddenly I could do this full time. Things are getting really crazy!!!!

Dan first off good to see you on here. Yes things are hectic. I hope things do calm down soon as my wife has to put up with the public idiots. She's a cashier and gets all types.

That hit my funnybone, Bob!....Good one! With that personality, maybe you'll be the last man standing!
Dan....nice to see you are doing better. Me too, but I'm trying to keep that a secret, locally. I'm starting to get used to people treating me specialer.
This country is living the worst bad dream......trying hard to wake up. Keep safe you guys.

Dan, I'm glad you got some relief from the pain. Seemed like a long time to us, but you were living it. Don't do anything to undo the progress !

Dan ~ Good to see you on here again. Bob ~ I think when it comes down to just a few of us left, you and I will be among them . . . but we will sure have plenty of social distance between us. Gary ~ Arizona's Governor, Doug Ducey, issued an Executive Order PROHIBITING the Closure of Essential Services. It is long-winded and covers a lot of information with specific direction to size of gatherings, social distancing etc. However, the bottom line for me states that Sporting Goods stores (including LGS) are among the essential services in Arizona. Pooh ~ Unfortunately our local police had to get involved with a similar "over buying of toilet" at the Wal•Mart. However, for the most part folks around here are getting along and actually helping each other out.
