Yesterday, I got a call from my LGS (Arizona considers them an Essential Business). My RUGER 57 was finally in. The gun is manufactured about 2.5 miles from the house, as the crow flies. I stopped what I was doing (I wasn’t really doing anything) and drove over to the shop. It’s kind of strange; the Gun Shop is farther from home than the RUGER Plant. Anyway; I am now the proud owner of a RUGER 57 and 150 rounds of 5.7 X 28mm ammo. I plan to go to the range next week (Arizona considers them an Essential Business). I’ll keep you posted on how things go. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Sounds like a really fun gun.....and Ruger is my favorite brand.....meaning every single Ruger I own or have owned have been awesome to shoot! So I did just a little looking for info......the following is a fun read:
I was also curious of the cartridge size comparisons....
Page down a little here:
Can't wait for your report!
I predict that the libs are going to have a cornonary. Good thing you are in Arizona now.....

Since I just blew my "allowance" on that Gold Cup, I have to wait. It does look like a very fun combination and the round looks ripe for a No.1 conversion might be tough to load like my Bee or Hornet. Anyway have fun with your new tool. ,

That's what I hear.....it's not easy to reload.....
I was at Grafs website today.....the dies are pricy, but I noticed that Lee makes a set. I noticed Grafs has an RCBS small-based sizer on sale ....good price, but no seater......
Their Hornady set was a lot less money than RCBS's.....I'd be tempted to buy those if I had one. I have no idea whether the "small-based" is something needful.

The 5.7x28 seem like a neat little round. There have been some at a few of the local LGS with most being the FN's Since we're on the subject of Ruger I would like to see this in a rifle let's say like the platform of the 77-22 Hornet using the same type of rotary magazine. Oh and please let us know how things go at the range.

Rifle? Sure, why not? Never too many snake or squirrel gun possibilities....or prairie dogs. Too small for hogs?

I should have some range time later this week. From the research I did while waiting for LGS to get the first ones in, everyone says the reloading does take some finesse and case life is said to be short. It’s critical that the expander is adjusted plenty deep to assure it’s through the neck before the case starts into the exterior sizing and that the case is far enough out of the sizing die before the expander contacts the inside of the neck. I have read a couple of reports on the gun and it’s FN brother that the report is extreme (described as a crack rather than a boom) and the recoil is very light. As I make ready for the range visit I find the sight acquisition amazingly quick and the trigger pull and reset very nice although I haven’t measure the pull yet. I’ll keep you posted.

All in all, sounds like a lot of fun. Might be just the thing to give some of the uppity coyotes a lesson in social distancing ! Waiting to hear how it goes !

I haven’t figured out what my problem is but I can’t hit the broadside of a barn with the new Ruger 57 (5.7 X 28) pistol. I’ve tried both Federal and FN ammo (the only commercial ammo available). I shoot my Ruger Security 9 (9mm) at 25 yards, off hand and group under 3 inches. I can’t keep things on paper (12”+) with the 57. I have talked to another guy who bought one he claims he can drive tacks with it. I plan to tare it apart, clean and lube as described in the manual and try again. Will shoot from a rest this time. Not sure what else to do.

Put on your glasses and / or move closer to the target! Sorry to hear of your troubles, I have faith in you you'll work it out I'm sure. Wish I could offer help but I can't.

Thanks for the information guys. My little medical adventure has kept me away from the range so I have not been able to work with the 5.7 X 28. I have talked with some other people who own them and everyone seems to agree the issues I have had MUST be self inflicted. I intend to get back out and work with it. I am staying with factory ammo until I have resolved issues then venture into reloading for it. I will let you know how I make out.

Larry, since you can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn, have you tried going inside of the barn? The other option is to shoot the doctors that are keeping you from the range. Seriously though I really hope things work out for you,as I said earlier my thoughts are with you.
