Well due to the lock-down I only have about 20 more bottle neck cartridges to load, then I'm relegated to straight wall hand gun stuff.

You have enough of the handgun stuff to be kept busy for awhile. I just have to get myself in gear to get some done and yes I have stuff on hand to be busy for a little while but then to get range time is the problem as of now.

Even worse, I actually spent some time over the weekend trying to straighten things out. Amazing what you find in such excursions... Meanwhile, I realize some of you are on lockdown, but here, we've been instructed to stay at home, but I'm up and around to the post office and my office to keep things from boiling over. Over in the western part of the state, one range closed down-the two I frequent are open. Events are cancelled but the ranges are usable, if you maintain social distance. What are you guys seeing ?

Boy the Michigan folks are getting testy...... Here in New Mexico, it's not terrible where I am, but on the Navajo reservation they are panicking. They are just learning the very foreign to their culture, social distancing concept....and they aren't very good at it, as I've already alluded to. As for shooting, our range is closed thanks to our liberal female, skeered or motherly (you pick) governor. So if I want to shoot it's off to the hills...... It's funny, being in construction, and in the self storage business we are considered "essential". I think most things might be more essential, but what do I know. The good thing is, at the self storage locations, on a typical day, year around, there are only a few people in at a particular time, and infrequently on the same row. Customers pay their bills by credit card on the phone. Or they make phone arrangements to pass (contaminated? ) cash and get back a receipt through the mail slot in the door. Our secretary/clerk is one of 3 in the whole building. What a life. I've been too busy playing with my new APP to worry about cabin fever....but it's coming....as I'm through playing and reloading serious-like. As for construction we are winding down (twilight of my life anyway) so I keep jobs small....mostly remodels....no more grocery stores, or oil company jobs...and I'm supposed to be recuperating from the November heart trouble anyway.....so I'm used to staying at home....except when the wife and I are sweeping out a vacated storage unit.....I can do that just fine.
I've pretty much got my Lee tool, the APP figured out.....and believe it's going to stay on the bench. Really gentlemen, I'm finding that it saves a lot of time.....even for you guys who load with single stage presses. Remember it's named the Automatic Processing Press for a reason.....it's all about case prep....leave the sizing to your old presses....that would be misusing it IMO. The main feature that makes it valuable is the case feeder, at least for me. Bullet feeding too if you size lead.
Even the swaging operation (once I figured it out) is so fast, I'm retiring my bench swager.....it just works and it's 5 times faster. The tool is cheap enough that nobody is going to fret buying one. Thanks to the heart trouble & Covid, I had the time to figure it all out.....worthwhile for sure. So Bob, order one!....then when you get out of ammo you have something else to do! The staight wall hand gun stuff will be way funner!
So Hacker, yours come in yet?

Greg the answer is yes. I took my Lee Reloader (that's their little c press) off and put that on as it has the same hole pattern. Reading over the instructions I see it recommends STP Oil Treatment for lubricating the press. That is also in the instructions to my Lee Auto Breech Lock Pro. So I contacted Lee on why the STP and this is how it went. First my comment then theirs.
I have recently acquired a Lee Auto Breech Lock Pro and a Lee APP. I see in both that it is recommended to use STP oil treatment to lube moving parts. Question is why the use of this product over other types of lubricants? Also is this product recommended for the other presses in the LEE line up?
Thank you in advance for your time and answer.
Hello Gary:
It just works well, that's why we recommend it. We also recommend using 30 weight motor oil if you have that handy as well.
Thank You,
Laine
Customer Service
It looks like they recommend it for all their press. I didn't ask when they started recommending it.

Well, we are working under: “stay at home, unless necessary in which case maintain social distance” directive. My shop is so clean and organized it’s scary but I have found some things I forgot I even owned. One local in-door range elected to close while the other two are open; the two out-door ranges are open. Of course all matches and events are canceled and if you go to one of the ranges you must maintain Social Distancing. Our April Gun Show was canceled. I haven’t made it to the range to shoot the new Ruger but that is my fault; I plan to make it soon. I have spent too much time with a new HAM Radio that I needed to get programed and I also installed a new antenna (had to get attic work done before warn weather). We are doing well, and our kids and grandkids are all well so I really have nothing to complain about. Our Saturday morning breakfast at the local dinner has been on a take out basis, likewise with the Wednesday Night Pizza. We attend church via U-tube (that feels odd to me). They keep telling us “this will pass” but I sure wish it would hurry up! ~ Stay healthy my friends.
Gary ~ I used STP as lubricant for years because it seems to last so long. It is very thick so more difficult to get it where you need to sometimes. An old mechanic told me years ago to thin STP with Kerosene. Once you apply it the Kerosene evaporates and the lube is where you want it. I’ve had good luck with that.

Gary: A couple of years ago I bought a big stash of Machine Gunned 7.62 LC brass from wideners. At that point of time I used Imperial wax for most loading. (I've probably shared that experience before, but STP entered in so I'll relate this again) The brass was blinged with lemishine and pins and became really hard to size....in fact, had I been younger and stronger I probably would have stuck the brass and been forced to buy a stuck brass extractor kit! As it was, I backed off before the the point of no return. Thinking it was a hard case, it took two more tries to convince the pea brain that it was not a fluke. So I decided to compare other lubes to see if something could measure up to this brass from hell. Second try was emulsified lanolin in 90% alcohol. Sprayed in on, let it dry, and tried it. Just a tad better, but it was still way too hard....still risky. So then I went back to the old RCBS lube pad, and that worked pretty darn good....almost as easy as normal commercial brass....no longer worried about sticking cases. But I'd heard old timers (now I is one) say that STP was about the best lube for sizing....but also the messiest. I decided to try it. They were right! Easily bested even the RCBS lube.....though it was messier....so I chose to stick with the lube pad. Through out this testing I also was testing methods of lubing the inside case necks (for retrieving expander without stretching). For that the lubricity comparison was similar, except that I also tried the white mica powder that came originally with my Trim Mate. The micas was just as good as the STP for that, and way less messy. Bottom line....STP is really slick stuff, and I'm not surprised Lee likes it to lube their moving non plastic parts. For plastic parts I like burnishing in graphic powder.
Bob: Today is way worse than yesterday. Wind....dust....pollen. Just hope it doesn't blow in the virus to go along with it. I'm sensitive to Cottonwood Tree pollen! And they are blooming now......2 more weeks of hell, and maybe I'll survive!

Some of the older handloading manuals recommended STP when sizing cases. Never got around to trying it as I stumbled into the Pacific lube that works so well I haven't goofed with it.
Larry, I never got around to doing the Ham thing (Sam Morse and I just never got along...) I do, when time permits, some SWL, sometimes when doing other stuff. What bands do you work ?

Larry, I haven't been able to shoot my 1911 GC. NM. nor work with my 6.5-270 yet either. I was going to try to get to the ranch but with the recent rains that is out. Greg, I'm sneezing right along with you, despite the intermittent rain it has been a tough season. As for the lube I use three, RCBS and pad, Imperial or Hornady wax and Imperial dry lube depending on the sizing.
Hope all are well!

Gary & Greg ~ My comment on STP was for lubricating machinery etc. I tried it as case lube many years ago and the mess was not worth it. I still use good old RCBS and Pad for cases. For lubricating plastic bearings I have found that Tri-Flow is the answer. A little expensive but I have a small can that has been around for years; it really goes a long way. Also, fantastic for locks and cupboard hinges with no graphite mess. You’ll find it wherever fishing reels, etc is sold. Jim ~ I tried to get into Ham Radio way back in school but couldn’t master the code. I passed the sending side but couldn’t master receiving fast enough. That is no longer a requirement so guys like me have been able to get the license. I’m just getting into it and work 2 meters (144 MHz) and 70 centimeters (440 MHz). With the networks of repeaters around the world I can make contacts anywhere. Only need a vertical 2 meter antenna so just minimal investment but a lot of fun. KJ7GTY Bob ~ Well, I hope we both make it to the range soon. Having new guns and not shooting them just isn’t right. All ~ Yes the pollen count here is extreme. This area is not as bad as the cottonwood “snow storms” when I was in Wyoming; that was three weeks of misery. Stay healthy and be safe . . . Keep Your Powder Dry!

Larry: I don't think I'm allergic to the tree cotton, because the week the nasty red flower pods fall (and stain) all the sidewalks in town, is the week my hayfever disappears......then the cotton flies.....and I'm perfectly happy and can finally fully enjoy the outdoors. It's the flowers and pollen in them trees, that's my enemy!
What a fickle country we have.....now people are getting cranky about the government trying to save us with "stay home" orders.....fine, for a week or two, until the fear wears off, then Trumps popularity starts going down again....cuz the virus is still ruining our economy and people are out of work, out of money, and it's Trumps fault of course.

Greg, glad you can get away from allergy meds. no you can take some cranky pills and be like me!
Well you don't think it's Pelost, Sh##t's or Scrumore's fault do you, they've done nothing but try to get this country financially sound again! Maybe Osama-beBiden or Burnie! They will not stop politicizing this issue.
