Well My "A" zone deer season has come and gone. Now I have a question does shooting a decent legal buck with a camera instead of shooting it with a rifle count? I think it does as I still have deer meat in my freezer. Anyway I had 4 legal bucks in my sights, 2 @ > 50 yds. and 2 @ 206 yds. the 206 yrd. bucks were twins and together and with a doe, if I can figger it out I'll try to post a photo . I hope you all have as much luck as I enjoyed this year. This was the first year in 80+ years that no deer were shot on the ranch. P.S. I saw over a dozen does and a few fawns, this was the inspiration to try to re-establish our once good population of deer which we now can due to the 2018 fire which burned some of our land and the re-growth is excellent browse for our deer. One can only hope!

With the new regrowth it should help with the deer population and to help keep it in that area.

Bob ~ As I've said, I have hunted with my camera for some time now. I get the same rush and thrill when I "hunt" with my camera that I did when I used my gun. Just think on the positive side; you can shoot them more than once and you don't have to pack them out . . . and IF you're a good enough hunter, you can shoot them again next year. I still love shooting but it's at the range now; just can't get away from the love of guns. Either way you go . . . enjoy it all, your forest management and game management efforts will pay off for sure. ~ Larry

Bob, Larry......ditto everything except that I don't even get to take pictures.......I will have to be content with watching them from my cabin or car windows Saw plenty of deer this trip.....saw a black bear last year......and a herd of elk. Can't take pictures from the car very easily....but I did take some pictures of a family of wild turkeys down the street from me here in town......and a couple of most amazing sunsets, thanks to the California fires. Here's one taken from my motel in Casa Grande, Ariz. That's the sun.....not the moon..... Yes, I've done some traveling the last week....Utah to Tucson to Colorado and home finally to New Mexico. Whew! No more please.
You guys every seen anything like that? I sure haven't......omen? ? A block away from my house. They are getting brave.....

Bob ~ That's why they call it deer hunting not deer shooting . . . . Maybe the deer are tired of Kalifornia politics and moved out of state too. Better luck next time . . . don't give up.

Well to continue multi year topic, the 2022 season closed today. I hunted (sort of) Saturday, the sort of is because we had 13 trees across our access roads which had to be cut and dragged out of the way. Today was much better and I connected at 150 yds. with 3 point(western) 8 point(Eastern or whitetail) buck at 7:45 this morning and it is now hanging at the butcher shop.

Congrats on the deer Bob. Since now I have eyes again I'm hoping to spend the hunt time with the grandkids. I don't mind if I don't connect if the grandkids do. That will make it all the worth while.

Congratulations Bob . . . it sounds like you earned this one, with all the work you had to do to get there. What would you guess the field dressed weight came in at? Gary ~ Hope all goes well with your plans with the grandkids. That’s really what it’s all about

Good job, Bob-that sounds like a good one for the freezer. And, they do taste better than Kodak paper. I've gone so far as to pass on shots on occasion. With that, Hacker, pass along the joy of the whole thing, and don't forget to tell them the whys and not just the hows !

Must be nice Bob! We have deer right in the middle of town! But you can't shoot them.....no shooting in the City Limits. These deer ain't dumb. They look a little skinny though....maybe not enough to eat in the city. They don't even react to the traffic..... Little video was taken since this thread started.....I was surprised to see this at 8AM in the morning.
Two bucks together and a doe below. Same street as the turkeys in my last picture on this thread. About 4 blocks from my house, 3 blocks from Ricketts Park. (not the kind of park that caters to deer)

Larry, it was reasonable weight for our area at 115#. GW I usually have a couple of deer just outside my back fence which backs up to a stream, and another 2-3 in a field about 50 yds. down stream or in our front yard helping trim the bushes. A suburban wilderness Bobcats Mountain lions skunks and racoons but no turkeys nor coyotes though both are in the local area. Gary take good care of them kids teach them well, we can not even mention firearm to anyone under 18 except our own it's a new law.

Now living in Northern Arizona, our home backs up to open range land. We are at 4,750’ elevation and have a number of critters who share the open prairie. Coyotes, Javelina, Skunks, Pronghorn, Ground Squirrels, Cotton Tails and Jack Rabbits are all common visitors to our yard. It’s only a couple of miles to the higher mountains and Mule Deer, Bobcats, Mountain Lions and Black Bears are common. Unfortunately we do have an invasive species moving in to the southern part of the state and they jeopardize the natural balance of everything . . . Liberals !

As a former resident Larry, you are aware of the non native invasive specie we have and unfortunately their seeds germinated, and the wind blew them your way after they destroyed this state.
