Two years ago this week, on a VERY BAD MORNING I lost my 13 year old Australian Shepard. He's the one in the picture with me in the profile. I said "no more dogs!" and have stuck by that . . . until yesterday. I drove five hours to Safford, AZ (Southeast corner) to "look at" some new Australian Shepard puppies. Long story-short . . . I'm going back in two weeks to pick up a pair. I guess I'll be changing my profile picture some time soon. In the mean time here's their 6-week pictures; meet JEEP and Mocha.

Larry, congratulations for your newest family members! They will cause you a lot of pleasure and aid in your health. My wife and I are looking for an Aussie/Border Collie or a smaller Aussie to replace ours, they are great and loyal friends.

Congratulations Larry! Never seen Austrailians that color. My father-in-law always had one while he was alive. He was a rancher, took cows into the mountains every year, and the dogs were his right hands. I've never seen ginger and white ones though. Pretty dogs!
My son-in-law has a young Irish Setter he took to our mountain year reunion this year in Colorado. Never seen a dog that would rather retrieve a ball rather than eat or drink. He'd throw it a quarter mile and the dog would almost beat it to the ground. Amazingly fast critter.
I've never got to have a dog like those.....living on a city lot is no place for a good active dog to live....would not do that to one. Enjoy your dogs!

The color is called Red Mural; not as common as many of the other colors. The female has one green eye and one blue, the male has two blue eyes. I'll show them off better when I get them on the 19th.
It's difficult to see in my profile picture but my last dog was a blue mural with one blue and one brown eye. Back in my ranch days we worked cattle with Aussies or Boarder Collies. I've always loved those breeds.
It's been odd these last two years with no dog. I'm very pleased to becoming a dog guy again.

Larry, it may be interesting to note that the "Aussie" was probably first bred in California as I understand it and there fore should be a California Shepard. I have seen this in writing and have heard it from others. Perhaps the breed saw the writing on the wall and got out while the getting was good and wanted no connection to this state!
Larry, thanks for for the thought, I may talk with you about the breeder.

Congratulations! I have always said I would never own that breed. Not wise to keep a dog that is smarter than me. Labs and Golden Retrievers were about the best I could keep up with. Enjoy your hounds.

Bob ~ I believe you're right on all counts
Mule ~ You're correct too . . . my horse and my dog made me look like a damn good cowboy, many years ago.

Best dog I ever had was a Border Collie/English Setter cross. Incredibly smart. Used to do my Algebra homework. Would have taken the final for me, but it was a small school, and someone would have noticed... Still miss that pup.

Good one! I asked my wife's cat to do my homework once.......he looked at me shook his head like, "You're kidding right?" and walked away. Now that's smart......and that's a cat. They own us.
